Promising Practices in Maternal & Child Health Program - Submission Information

About the Program

Under several projects funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), NIHCM has been working with health plans to improve their maternal and child health programs and practices for over 13 years.  This work has focused on the exchange of information between the health insurance community, the federal government, and other national MCH stakeholders through meetings, webinars and publications.  In order to continue to build the MCH infrastructure and capacity of health plans, NIHCM has created this Promising Practices in MCH program to recognize emerging and promising programs or policies in MCH, promote program replication and new collaborations, and create a dedicated space where health plans and other MCH leaders can share their success stories with peers.

Who Can Submit?

Anyone can submit a promising practice as long as it involves at least one health plan or health plan foundation.  We are particularly interested in efforts involving partnerships, especially with state or local government and community groups, as well as efforts that involve family, youth, and/or consumers in the planning, development or implementation.

Why Submit?

Through this new project, NIHCM joins eight other national professional organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Bar Association, Association of State & Territorial Health Officials, National Association of County & City Health Officials, Grantmakers in Health, Family Voices, National Conference of State Legislatures and the National Governors Association, in helping members of each respective organization make well-informed decisions on matters impacting the health and health care of mothers and children.  The efforts contained in the Promising Practices database will be shared with the constituents of all of these organizations and will receive prominent visibility in NIHCM’s MCH newsletter which is sent quarterly to more than 3,500 decision makers at health plans, MCHB, federal and state agencies, and other MCH stakeholders.  In addition, on a quarterly basis, one Promising Practice submission will be selected and highlighted in a NIHCM-designed and produced fact sheet.  This fact sheet will be a more in-depth summary of the Promising Practice and allow both the participating organizations and NIHCM to more formally display and share the highlighted efforts.
