Does 'Pay for Performance' Work?

The concept of paying providers based on quality or value rather than the quantity of services provided has been gaining traction, notably with Medicare planning to tie half of its payments to value by 2018. Yet some experts warn of challenges in measuring quality and in designing incentives that will actually improve care. This webinar, hosted by USC Annenberg’s Center for Health Journalism, toured the existing evidence on pay for performance and took a hard look at claims that it will boost quality and curb spending.
