The 1 in 45 children who are homeless in the U.S. are sick four times as often as their peers and are more likely to suffer from acute and chronic illness. Although the Affordable Care Act promises better care for some of these children through expansions in Medicaid eligibility and funding for federally qualified health centers, insurers also have a powerful role to play in addressing this complex, cross-sector issue.
