As rates of substance abuse, depression and suicide rise in the U.S., there is a growing need for a more holistic approach to well-being. From physical and mental health to financial security and social connectedness, scientific research shows that people with higher well-being are healthier and live longer.

Leaders in health care and business are increasingly looking to improve well-being in their communities, particularly as the U.S. loses $225.8 billion in productivity each year due to health problems. The challenge is designing a successful program that connects all the components of well-being.

The first part in a series entitled “Defying Despair,” this webinar explored the science of well-being. Speakers discussed:

  • Strategies for translating research on well-being into meaningful applications, both in the workplace and in daily life
  • An accessible virtual program with weekly webinars to inspire and motivate people to improve their well-being
  • The science linking happiness and health, including the roles of social connection, personal mindfulness and gratitude
