Evaluating Automatic Enrollment into Marketplace Coverage During the Unwinding of the Medicaid Continuous Coverage Policy: a Two-State Study

There are concerns that ending the Medicaid continuous coverage provision in early 2023 will result in widespread coverage loss. This study will evaluate insurance marketplace efforts in Massachusetts and Rhode Island to mitigate coverage loss through the implementation of automatic enrollment policies. Findings may help policymakers understand how effective such policies are at helping enrollees retain coverage and what state-specific factors aided and hampered policy implementation.
