Summary of the Project:
This NIHCM-funded study used several sources of data on physician practice ownership combined with Medicare and private-sector claims data to investigate how care patterns, quality of care and spending for services are related to hospital ownership of physician practices and the competitiveness of physician markets. Results are relevant to policymakers addressing consolidation between hospitals and physician practices.
