Revealing Promising Opioid Interventions to Reduce Health Care Costs

Opioid use results in billions in health care costs, as well as devastating health outcomes. This project will combine extensive data analysis with investigative reporting to identify the geographical areas with the most success reducing opioid-related emergency room use and related health care costs.

The APM Research Lab, American Public Media’s data journalism hub, works to “bring facts into focus” (apmresearchlab.org) Made up of a team of researchers and journalists, the Lab assembles, analyzes and visualizes data to inform the public -- on topics ranging from public health and the economy to education and the environment -- often in partnership with newsrooms.
