Summary of the Project:
This study will investigate whether physician practices that are vertically integrated with hospitals produce care for Medicare patients at higher or lower cost than non-integrated practices and whether there are differences in care utilization across the two types of practices. The work will contribute to the evidence base on the impacts of vertical integration, complementing similar work by this team on the effects of horizontal consolidation among physician practices.
