Nearly one million children gained health care coverage in 2014, and the extension of CHIP earlier this year preserved coverage for millions more. Yet there are still many challenges in keeping kids covered, including variations in state Medicaid policies and funding for CHIP beyond 2017. This webinar explored the patchwork of public and private coverage options for kids and the obstacles to accessing quality care.
Presentations included the following:
- trends in children’s access to care, including predictions for the future of CHIP
- how federal policy has changed health care for kids according to a former CMS Deputy Administrator
- Medicaid managed care programs to coordinate care for vulnerable kids, specifically those with chronic or behavioral health issues and those in foster care
- state efforts to reduce churn in and out of Medicaid and private coverage and to promote family coverage options
