COVID-19 has now killed more than 500,000 Americans, reducing life expectancy by a year, with data from the first half of 2020 showing the drop falling disproportionately on Blacks and Hispanics. The report, by the National Center for Health Statistics, bases life expectancy estimates on provisional death counts for the months January through June, 2020.
