About the Data Insights
This infographic highlights trends and future implications regarding Alzheimer's Disease, which is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States but remains without a cure. In 2019, 5.6 million people age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's and that number is projected to reach 13.8 million by 2050.
As this number climbs, there will be major implications for caregiving. Currently, almost half of all caregivers helping older adults do so for someone living with Alzheimer's or another form of dementia, and one in three caregivers is themself 65 years of age or older. About a quarter of dementia caregivers are caring both for an aging parent and children under the age of 18.
